Şebnem Keçeli

BIOGRAPHY

Şebnem Keçeli is an Istanbul-based artist. She received her B.A. in American Culture and Literature from the Faculty of Language, History and Geography at Ankara University and earned her M.A. in Plastic Arts and Painting from Yeditepe University. As a synthesis of her academic background, Keçeli creates works in which diverse narrative patterns evolve into sculptural forms. Driven by an interest in the nature of both human and non-human beings, she seeks to make visible the differences inherent in the nature of things and the relationships that exist between them. Beginning with the figure, her forms develop through reflections on life, biology, and the ways in which culture shapes our existence. Through organic, fluid forms as well as inorganic, angular structures, she explores the tensions and dualities between the natural and the artificial. Working with a wide range of materials including marble, wood, polyester, and metal, Keçeli pursues a multilayered visual language in which conceptual thinking and materiality remain permeable to one another, generating multiple meanings. The artist has participated in various artist residency and visiting artist programs, including the School of Visual Arts (SVA). She continues to live and work in Istanbul.

School of Visual Arts (SVA) başka olmak üzere çeşitli konuk sanatçı programlarına katılan sanatçı, İstanbul’da üretimlerine devam eder.
